Antique Restoration
It is not simply age that makes an antique. Quality, style, craftsmanship, uniqueness and condition are also part of determining antique and antique value. Being a tangible part of a family's heritage and tradition is important as well.
Conservation is a specialized part of furniture care and repair. It is a careful preserving the old while insuring that the piece is functional and usable, and so that the patinated aged attractiveness shines. As each situation is distinctive; proper assessment and evaluation must be made by knowledgeable professionals.
At Danlin Furniture Conservators, our 45 years of experience is our strongest asset. This experience is reflected in the quality of our conservation accomplishments -- apparent from the types of pieces we have been asked to restore and from the satisfaction of our clients. This occurs only because our craftsmen are specially trained and highly capable.
For antique pieces to retain their beauty, value and usefulness, they must have periodic professional care. Improper handling, care or "maintenance" can dramatically reduce a piece's value and its future durability. This applies to cleaning and polishing of the finish and to the structural integrity of joinery. For ornate pieces that are veneered or with fancy mouldings, intactness and completeness are of prime importance.
Some pieces are museum quality, most are not. Just because a piece is not museum quality does not mean it is not valuable or historically important. Contact us so that we can consult with you about your pieces and discuss the preserve of their beauty and value. Email Dan a picture at danjr@rcn.com or set up an appointment by calling 773 271 3456.
